Two New Books!!!!

This is one nice book! I studied Fashion Merchandising in the mid-70's and once owned several of these books. During my many years of re-location, the books left my side. I found this jewel in the Barnes and Nobles Bookstore in Madison. Talking surprise!!!! This book is volumnous and chock full of details. Below is a pic of the Table of Contents. Hopefully you will be able to see what this book covers.

Nancy Zieman Sewing A toZ Combo (Book & DVD)

I have used this book and CD since receiving it. I purcahsed this as my Christmas gift after seeing Nancy on my local PBS Station. Her techniques are always refreshing to use.

I still have plenty pictures of my most recent sewn garments but my pics were loading so slowly.
I hope you all have had a wonderful day. Hopefully, I can post more pics while sitting in the Play Place with my granddaughter/grandson and nephew (we're celebrating Sydney's 8th birthday which was Friday, past).

My Best Project!!! Giving A Gift That Will Keep Giving.

This Christmas, I gifted my granddaughter, Sydney, with her first sewing machine, sewing basket equipped with all the tools necessary to begin her journey into the world of sewing and crafting. She is 7 yrs. old and is now the 4th generation of crafters!!!!

I promise NOT to talk. The pictures will do the talking for me. LOL

I guess I have everything!

This pattern has three views, close-fitting tops cut on the grosswise grain, dolman sleeves, stitched hems. I made View B with three-quarter length sleeves with a scooped neck.

Top Front

Fabric: A ponte knit purchased from Hancock Fabrics a year ago. A medium weight knit that feels simply devine.

Sizing: XS-M; L-XXL. I cut a size Small (8-10).

Alterations: Minimal. 1.5" added to lengthen midriff on the Front; Lengthened back midriff 1" and added the additional .5" to bottom of back. Sewed 5/8" seams all around tapering in and and 1/2" seams from high waist to hip. Rather than purchasing bias tape, I made bias tape from the fashion fabric.

Like/Dislikes:
No dislikes. I really love this top and had envisioned this fabric as another top when I purchased it. I
plan on making View A in a stretch lace anyday now. lol . Here are some pics showing the overall view, wobble-stitching at the neckline. I have not decided to keep the length or shorten so there is no hem, just turned up where it would be sewn.

Hello My Sewing Friends! It has been quite awhile since I last blogged but sewing has been going on here in the River City, Alabama! On New Years' Day, the most loved blogger called to check in to see how I was doing. Needless to say, I was ectastic and very happy to hear from FAYE LEWIS, my friend. After the pleasantries were exchanged and a little chit-chat, Faye expressed her desire for me to get back into sewing and blogging of the progress. Friends, that was truly inspiring for me. I immediately got up and went into my sewing room. Now, here goes, Faye. THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart!!!!!! This is a long post but I will try to break it up, somewhat. Haven't blogged in such a long time, confused! lol

V8780 Misses' Jacket And Pants Search Vogue Patterns
When this pattern first debuted, I knew it would be a project for me. So here goes! BTW, thank you fellow bloggers for continuing to follow me eventhough there was absolutely nothing to follow!

SIZE:
This pattern is sized (XS-S-M) (L-XL-XXL) I chose the Medium, glad I did as this coat fits very snug through the arms.

Description:
Fitted, unline jacet in two lengths. Front extending into collar, pockets are stitched (omitted) and the wrong sides show on collar. I made the longer length.

Fabric:
A heavy-weight knit suting from Hancock Fabrics. This fabric is so very nice. Planning to make a suit from the rest (purchased 10 yds.) lol Grey color; 70% poly/25% rayon/5% spandex.

Alterations:
Lengthened the bodice (F & B) 1" and sleeves were lengthened 1.5" I could have lengthened only .5".

Dislikes or Likes:
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this coat. I love the lower back section has a bit of flare. I will make this coat again in the color red. Pattern went together easily. No seam finishes on the edges. If you have not tried this pattern give it a go!

Temptation Too Great!!!

Hello fellow bloggers! I have started to sew again and made two dresses during the month of September! The first dress has been reviewed by so many that I had could not resist it any longer. Like a kid in the candy store, I pulled out Vogue Pattern # V1224, you know that Tracy Reese. This dress is beautiful. The fabric is a knit purchased at Joanne Fabrics and this is a keeper!!!

After reading the reviews, a few alterations to the pattern was done beforehand. I lengthened the bodice 2.5 inches, the skirt about 6 inches. I can't add anything else to the comments this dress is a must-try and is without a doubt the favorite pattern of 2011. BTW, I did make a self-fabric belt as an option when wearing this dress. Dress #2 is Butterick 5652. Love the fabric which is a knit purchased from Hancock Fabrics. Love this dress, cut a size small and should have cut XS. Too much fabric for my frame. Nothing lost, I gave it to my friend. Pics of her wearing it coming soon. This dress was a fast and easy sew!

Hello fellow bloggers! It has been an awful long time since I last blogged. Please forgive me but I atually forgot my password. I really forgot the password!!!! I guess that's the price you pay for lagging. Well to catch up, I have been remodelling and busy with life, in general.

The Negligent and Very Forgetful Blogger!!!!!

A couple of months ago, I blogged of missing my one year anniversary! Guess what? After looking over my blog one year has turned into TWO years! I've actually missed the second year and never got around to the one year give-away. Okay, now you get what's happening. ugh!!! As Promised- Pics of Bathrobes A----nd......

It has been so time since I posted that I made my grandchildren bathrobes. They absolutely love them and so do I. It has been at 20 years since I made garments for children but these projects were so easy to make and really jump started my mojo again.

Both robes were made out of fleece they each chose (waited so ever patiently to receive). I'm certainly planning to do more sewing for them as this really made me feel a little more confident about cutting into fabrics again. lol Those of you with stashes have an idea where I'm going with that. lol

Now for the last of pics, here is a little something I recently acquired from the trash pile at my local fabric store. As usual, I was paying my daily visit when I was told there were old pattern cabinets being discarded. Would you like one? Well, the answer is history. Please overlook the fact that this cabinet is still sitting in the doorway to my living room waiting to be moved to it's prominent place.

Hooray!!! There has been some sewing going on in the nook. My granddaughter and grandson are both very excited and pleased with their new bathrobes/pjs. So am I. Pics will be posted later. I was so thrilled for them to have them I forgot to take pics. Oops!!!!

Well, I am about to start on my Sew Along projects now that I have those garments done. Follow along.
I'm starting to feel that my blog is boring to me as well as to others. lol

One Phone Call = Notion Discovery!!!! That's What Sewing Buddies R 4

I must share this with you all. Faye Lewis called me on Monday night and did we ever talk, talk and talk. I always enjoy our conversations because she is so ever inspiring. Anyway, we were discussing sewing notions and Faye pointed out the blog "The Princess Cupcake". There is a gadget featured on there called a hemming gauge. Low and behold after watching the mini video while talking to Faye, I quickly remembered that I owned one. Can you believe that? My husband brought this gadget home to me about 23 months ago and thought I could use it. Thinking it was some sort of hemming gauge, I just put it in a corner of my sewing room and forgot about it.

Having the hemming thingy with the chalk powder pump seemed fine, no need to explore that little thing, or so I thought. I am totally in shock. This gauge is totally awesome! As I said earlier, sewing buddies are so inspiring. Now on the hunt to find one for my friend, Faye. Thank you Faye for sharing that small but invaluable info. Here are pics of both guides. The smaller one is the little forgotten treasure and it measures up to 20". I just wonder how old this thing is as it doesn't have the attached pincushion as does The Cupcake Goddess.

Let It Snow!!! (pics) and New Fabric Haul

Hello Fellow Sewists:
It has been a minute since my last post. Off work and enjoying this beautiful snow. Snow is just so beautiful and it has been a long time since we've experienced a snowfall like this in Alabama. We even had a lightning and thundersnow moment last night.

Shortly after Christmas, I purchased four pieces of fabric from Gorgeous Fabrics and I'm absolutely thrilled. Three of the pieces are knit ottoman (bright red, tan and chocolate brown). These knits are lovely and easy to sew and are machine washable with a lovely hand. The fourth piece is a 100% wool crepe named Winter Sunshine. Don't you just love the name? It makes me feel happy. I also took a mini-vacation to Mobile, Alabama for New Year's and purchased a few yards of a cotton sateen. I believe it is named Midnight something or the other but it is beautiful (Joanne Fabrics). Well, that's it for the rambling now for the show.

Being snowed in for a few days, my plan is to get a little sewing done. What I don't have a plan. LOL

Burda 7866 Top & Elna 444 Coverstitch

The Burda top above is so very nice and easy to sew and wear. I used a knit fabric purchased from Wal-Mart that was in my stash from whenever. I loved this fabric when I found it. This fabric feels great against the skin.

The pattern is sized 10-22. I made a 10 though I believe an 8 would have been a closer fit. I made a 1/2" swayback adjustment so that this top would hang evenly around the hip area. Yeah, I made the size 10 in the shoulder/bust area and increased by 1/2" on each side in the hip area. The instructions had some type of confusing technique for interfacing the neckline. I chose to make a template and interfaced the entire neckline and turned under. Used my new Elna 444 Coverstitch machine to hem sleeves, neckline and hem. Wow, I never knew this machine was so handy. I've owned it about 2 months now and love it. My collection of knits will be getting a workout now. Here are pics of the top, alterations and the Elna 444.

Miss Mock Wrap Dress Sewing Pattern 4074 Simplicity

THis dress was so much fun to make. Not certain whether pattern is OOP or not. The fabric used was a printed moleskin (Walmart) which was in my ever growing stash. I love red and this seamed (punt intended) to be the right choice for this dress. Again, princess seams. I chose not to insert a zipper, the fabric was forgiving in my size. I loved, loved the pleats on the shoulder seams. I also loved the fact that I could wear a different belt (the fabric belt was made). I do love this pattern. Leaning towards princess seam patterns is a given for this pear-shape. Occasionally, I venture away, you'll see.

This is a great pattern to use for draping and fitting. Though easy, time should be alloted for correct positioning of seams (f/b & side seams) to obtain the correct fit. I did extend the waistline by 1/2" and cut a size 12 in the pattern shoulders, increasing to a Size 14 in the hips. Standing 5'7" I did lengthen by 1/2" (though not necessary) just love longer dresses.

If I make this dress again, I will choose a lighter fabric. T+his dress is so very comfortable to wear ( Stilletto=sexxy or boots=stylish/daring).

This has to be a favorite dress. I adore princess seams as they are easy to accomadate fluctuations in weight gain/loss, etc. The collar is so very interesting, drawing attention to the face. Being small busted, I decided to add interesting buttons (animal) and the same print in shoes to complete the look. The fabric used was a black twill purchased from Hancock Fabrics (stash). The buttons were purchased from Wal-Mart. The invisible zipper is one of my favorite. This is one sexxy dress worn with one-seam hose. It reminds me of a through-back to the 40s or 50s, both of which I love. This is an easy and stylish dress. Would recommend to the novice or advanced seamstress because of the classy style. BTW, please excuse the background. I'm de-stashing.

Since my last post concerning an order, I received an e-mail on December 9th stating that my return was finally under review by Return Specialist and that they (company) was trying to find a solution. Huh!?!
Going into my account on their website, I find the following communication: A Return Specialist has reviewed your complaint and will be in contact with you soon if not already. Well, NOT!!!!

The inner "trusting" side of me want to believe that they are trying to surprise me with a new item. The anguished side says, "bidding for more time". Either way, I've decided to wait and see. I don't want to put this company on blast because I am still awaiting an order from this same order!!! If I ever recover..... You get it!!!!

On another note, I have several pics to post of garments but just haven't had the time to do so. Finding the links to OOP patterns or current patterns is so time consuming. Maybe if I stop venting I could post those pics, right? Well, I think I will do just that. Give me a few minutes, I promise.

Disappointed to the "nth" degree!!!!!!

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!! An order was recently placed with this company (no name,yet) for multiple items. One item (iron) was delivered by UPS, once opened the inner package (product) was met with utter amazement. The iron was used, dirty and even had the original owner's label attached!!! I was livid, to say the least. I immediately "called" Customer Service, spoke with a live rep., confirmed the problem, assured that I would be contacted about the problem. Mind you, this was done on December 1st and today is December 5th. There is a 5-day window for complaints/returns. NOTHING! Absolutely no contact. E-mail sent, NOTHING!! This item was advertised as "New" on their website.

It is unbelievable that this shipment went out and that no one has made any attempt to rectify this problem. I am appalled given I have ordered from this company before. What would you do in a situation like this? Personally, this is my last time doing business with this company. Oh, BTW, I have not received the other half of my order, nor can I track the shipping order # provided. My account has been charged for these orders (3). The least expensive has arrived but I can't seem to get any help on the most expensive items ordered. The dates given for delivery have come and gone!!!!

One more attempt will be made on Monday to rectify this problem. Afterwhich, I will name the company and seek legal advice. Unbelievable to say the least!!!!! If your business caters to the sewing community, I expect you to be honorable in your business dealings! I'll keep you posted.

1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts & Tips & Sewing World Magzine-October Issue

I paid a visit to Barnes & Nobles Bookstore on Wednesday and look what I found: The book :1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts & Tips by Deepika Prakash of Patternreveiw.com. I was pleasantly surprised. This book is full of interesting tips provided by sewists offering tips on Patternreview.com. It also features tips from Master Teachers, Sarah Veblen, Susan Khalje, Kenneth D. King, the late Shannon Gifford, and Anna Mazur. After making it home, I actually read through this book, could not put it down. This book is a must have.

As you can see from the picture below, this book is well laid out. Congratulations, Deepika on a job well-done. This book is awesome and quite intertaining.

I usally grab a copy of Sewing World Magazine each month. This October issue included a surprise. It highlighted bloggers, Gertie over at www.blogforbettersewing.com and Bunny of www.lasewist.blogspot.com. I read their blogs quite often and enccourage you to take a peek in. I believe Gertie is sponsoring the "Lady Grey" coat sew-a-long which I did not have the time to enter. Sorry!!

Well, that's it for now. Just wanted to share. BTW, I did make some muslins of skirts, pants and a dress but just not feeling the fit to make up. Still plugging along though. I'm also still learning how to get better pics. LOL

Burda Style Magazine and Karl Lagerfeld--OMG!

I renewed by subscription to Burda Mag in August after a very long hiatus. I have been very pleased. The October mag. arrived today and was I surprised. This Karl Lagerfeld jacket is TDF!! I am so excited. This jacket must be made up immediately. You should know this jacket caused a sudden pause in heartbeats (LOL).

On Saturday, I received my Hot Patterns. I have so much excitement building. To say I have a lot of wardrobe planning to do is an understatement. I do have the fabrics already.

Oh, guess what? Joanne Fabrics opened in Florence, Alabama in August and I cannot be more excited to have one closer than Birmingham or Nashville (Coolsprings). You guessed it, I paid them to visits in one week. I was told that Hunstville is getting a Joanne the first of the year. Lord, help me, please!!!!

I'm BAaack!!!!

Thanks to all of you that have e-mailed, followed my blog and etc. I am officially back! I did make my visit to New Jersey and New York (Times Square). The visit was very short lived. My son has since relocated to Seattle, WA. I am more excited to get there in that fabric haven!!!

Before and since my visit, I have made several fabric and gadget finds and I'm sitting on ready. I also took out a 6-mth subscription to BWOF just to try it again after a long hiatus, so far so good. I am so ready for fall fashion as it has been extremely hot here in Alabama!!!

Guess What!!!!?

First, I must thank each of you for for your continued prayers and thoughtfulness. You ladies and gentlemen are the best, WoW!!! Thank you from my inner heart. I must confess that I have been hoarding fabric and patterns with the aid of my sister, Sandra. I almost feel the need to apologize, but I won't (lol). Some old habits are hard to break and are especially hard to break when you don't have someone keeping you in check.

Well, I haven't sewn in quite sometime but plan to do a great bit this weekend and next few weeks. I really have made flight arrangements with the help of my first born, a son. I'm finally making a trip to New Jersey!!!!! Yeah, Baby!!!. I plan to visit the Garment District in New York. Mood's is definitely on my list. As a student of Fashion and Design in 1974, I had the opportunity to visit the showrooms in the fashion district and look forward to re-living that part of my life. I'm sure much has changed but just being in the hub makes my heart skip beats! Am I excited, you ask? You had better know it!!! I'll keep you all posted.

I guess you all have noticed that I'm able to post again. Long story short, I had to break down and purchase new lappie. It was hard to do, believe me! I'd rather purchase fabric, patterns, sewing books and inspirational magazines than dole out cash for many things(LoL).

Wish me well. Country girl taking on the big cities. I'm not afraid (LOL) either!
Now, if I can just get that darn camera to act right.

I just found out Saturday that the motherboard on my laptop is gone, over, finished. Going to try retrieving and saving what's on my lappie. Let's Catch Up!!! .... (Long Post)

WoW! I knew I haven't posted in a while but I have been doing the fabric and pattern thingy. I did attend the Sewing Expo in Georgia (Gwinnett) to be exact. I took all my machines with the intention of sewing and attending classes. No that did not happen, not in the mood. Shopping? Yeah!!! Classes? Signed up for three and attended one, totally not in the mood. I decided at the last minute to attend just to do some fabric shopping and view the independent pattern designers. I visited the Vogue Fabrics booth the first day and was deeply surprised with the fabric selection and voiced that to the staff. Moving along, I sought out my favorite pattern designer, Cynthia Guffey. Oh yeah! Cynthia had a great collection of raw silk in several colors and orderable for those not at the show. I purchased several of those and about 12 of her patterns. I absolutely love her patterns!!! Cynthia, as always, is so accomodating. She suggested that I step up my color palette and go with vibrant colors and yes, I did!!!

The second and final day, I went back to Cynthia and acquired some more raw silk (shameful, I know). I re-visited the Vogue Fabrics booth and was surprised at the new fabrics they had put out and of course, you know what happened. Yeah, I did (lol). Moving along, I "ran" into the Silhouette Pattern booth and did what I came to do. Pattern and fabrics was on order there, too. I finally found the gentleman with the helping hand tools and purchased a seam roll, tailors board and ham holder. Just got to order the cover for the tailors board. I was so tired of lugging those bags around that I went off the first day and forgot my coat!!! I was able to claim it the 2nd day after hearing that many of the women were coveting my coat and were hoping I did not claim (LOL)!!!! No, I didn't make it but it is cute (a red stretch satin Jessica Simpson purchased for $30.00 at Dillard's)!!! I love her too and would have been very saddened by losing her.

Well, my friends it was a great two days for me. My friend, a non-sewer, accompanied me at the last minute through 6.5 hours of torrential downpours. I am so grateful for her friendship. She purchased a massager (LOL) and has truly enjoyed it. While driving home on Friday, I received a surprise phone call from my friend Faye checking to see whether I attended. And the answer was a resounding YES! Not being able to see Faye during my trip was very disappointing but I was very happy to hear that she was attending on Saturday.

Well, I guess I have bored you all enough but do know, I had a shopping blast. As you can imagine, that retail shopping trip was a prescription worth filling!!! I took many pics of my fabrics but that darn computer is not working still. Will post pics when able. I Want To Meet You!

Any of you going to the sewing expo in ATL?!? That has always been one of my favorite outings. Having attended a few, this year I feel so compelled to attend. Cleveland, OH and Florida would be my other choices. My sister, also a seamstress, suggested San Francisco!!! WoW!!! I've only been as far away as Arizona (birth of my granddaughter 6 years ago). Now, that is saying something (lol)!

Confession time. I have purchased fabric from Fabric.com in the last few days (1st time) and I am very pleased with the timely shipping and the quality of the fabric. You know when you're making those plans to sew, you have to do some retail therapy as well. As soon as I get my camera card back from DD, I will do a little show & tell.

De-cluttering? Oh, I forgot. I did not mention de-stashing of fabrics (lol). I am having so much fun laughing these days. I find that laughter has helped me through this time. Sometimes I laugh just to laugh.

I have also discovered a new set of friends (You All)! Your kind words and encouragement made my heart sing. Thank You All.

Well, looks as though we may be having a snow/ice storm in a few hours and I have settled in for some sewing!!!! Finally, please continue to pray for me. I am gradually finding my way and re-discovering myself.

Still Here....Busy De-Cluttering The Stash!!!!!

Just wanted to check in to let all know that I'm getting along well. I've been reading blogs daily but not blogging nor sewing. I want to thank you all for your continued prayers and thoughts. My heart wants to sew but my sewing room is in such a mess!!!! The past two weeks, I have been trying to rearrange this room sorting out my fabric and pattern stash. I began with the Vogue Patterns and did not realize that I had so many (ashamed). After the Vogue Pattern saga, I have decided to not organize the remaining Big 4 pattern stash (LOL). The Vogue collection stands, as to date, 300 and still got more to catalog. Lord, help me!!!

If any of you are interested in helping me to de-stash, please let me know. Let's not discuss the fabric collection, I don't know where to begin. I had intentions of selling many patterns on ebay but I just don't have the energy.(lol)

If you have a pattern that you're pinning for, please let me know. I knew I had a problem, but.....! As I was organizing the Vogue Patterns, I realized that I had 2 or 3 of the same patterns in different sizes and the same goes with Butterick, McCall and Simplicity. Whew! Let's not ignore the fact that many of them where purchased numerically. Meaning?!? I have plenty in the order you would find in the store (numerically). LOL !!! Shameful? Yes!!!!

Well, enough already. I prayed that you, my sewing pals, had a beautiful and joyful Thanksgiving, Christmas. After much lurking, I know that you have had great beginnings to the New Year. Ergo, Happy New Year to you all.

Last note, my desktop and laptop computers shutdown on December 22. I was not able to log on unless I went to the library, which was once weekly. I received my desktop back from the computer doctor 2 weeks ago and have been trying to play catch-up with all of you.

Just popping in to say, "Thank You" for your kind and encouraging words. They mean so much to me. I actually feel your prayers for me and my family. We are coping as best as we can. Our faith is sustaining us right now. Words cannot express how all this has impacted my life! The short time in which we had to deal with this and then... WoW!

I have been thinking about sewing. Purchased some fabric/patterns to start sewing for my granddaughter and grandson (coats). I feel somewhat excited!!!! Maybe next week as we are spending Thanksgiving in Atlanta, meeting and greeting and of course my daughter will be doing the Black Friday thingy. Never been into that very much (lol)!

Another Sleepless Night!!!

Hello Friends,
Your prayers and well wishes have been heartfelt and very welcoming! The Memorial Service for my husband was beautiful and attended by hundreds of people. I never knew how many people loved and knew my best friend/husband the way I did. WoW!!!

As you all can imagine, there has been no sewing but plenty browsing and snooping (lol). Just cannot find peace in that sewing room right now. Please continue to pray for my strength. I am taking one hour at a time right now. The shock factor is so very overwhelming to me and everyone that he ever came into contact with.

A Broken Heart!!!!

Hello Friends,
Just want to thank each of you for the kind words and encouragement. You will never know how much this means to me!!!

My best friend/husband passed away on Friday, 06Nov2009 during the wee hours. He had a short stay at the hospital from Monday 02Nov2009 came home on the 5th and gracefully spoke his wishes and went home to be with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What a brave, encouraging, uplifting, etc. man he was.

Today, Tuesday 10Nov2009 is the Memorial Service. Though he has departed this earthly life, I have no doubt that we will be reunited someday. Can't sleep tonight eventhough, I've had peaceful and restful nights up until now. I know that I will get through this but the suddeness of it all is a bit much.

Please continue to pray for my strength. Word of advice: Get your annual checkups, demand nothing short of a complete examination and second opinion!!!! To care about, love and respect your physician is never enough when it comes to our health. Second and third opinions are in order!!!!

Just wanted to drop a line, now off to bed. The love and support that has been shown toward my family is astronomical. As a Truancy Officer, he deeply loved children, encouraed them to remain in school, never giving up or dropping out.

There will never be enough time nor words to describe this man of my life. I pray that I be as dignified in death as he was. Now to heal....

Please Pray Along With Us!!!!!

Many of you have noticed the lack of posting. Much has been going on in my life. On October 6th, my husband and best friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Our world has been totally rocked off it's rafters!!! He has gone through two rounds of chemo and is scheduled for the 3rd round and radiation this upcoming Tuesday. I ask for your prayers for my strength during this time. As you can imagine, we are totally in shock dealing with this.

My soulmate is a strong believer in exercise and began each day with a four mile-a-day walk @ 4:30am before going to work. He had been in and out of the doctors office for about three years with complaints of shortness of breath, sinus problems, etc. and was constantly diagnosed as having bronchitis and being treated accordingly. Neither of us, having no medical training, trusted our physician and relied on his expertise. Excuse me, I'm still in shock and rambling.

I ask that you please pray along with us as we go through this difficult time. Our Faith is sustaining us right now. Faye, thank you so much for listening to me the other week and encouraging me.

My posts will be sparse and at times not at all for awhile. I will try to keep you all posted on the developements. God is able and that I know and believe but right now I am struggling. Thanks to you all for continuing to follow my blog.

CONGRATULATIONS MY DARLINGS!!!

Back in May, you all shared in my excitement at the graduations of my son and daughter from Emory University (Atlanta) and Aiken Technical College (Aiken, SC), respectively.

My son is now, and has been since January 2009, the Plant Manager at a major company in New Jersey and my daughter recently obtained her RN License!!! I am so very proud of you both!!! Now both are contemplating higher degrees in their fields.

Oh yea! my granddaughter received 5 Smiley Faces for being quiet(lol) and my grandson is back doing his thing at daycare. Got to give props, you know!!

Contemplations and Babbling!!!

Okay Blog land, it is early morning and I'm still awake contemplating the previous days' sewing project. Prepped two patterns (I don't usually cut my patterns, but trace them using Swedish Tracing paper) but this time I decided to take the giant leap and cut the actual patterns, fusing each piece with fusible woven interfacing.
Mercy Me!!!

Afterwards, I tissue fitted Mollie (dress form) and discovered that one of the patterns had an obvious defect!!! Mercy Me!!!. The next pattern involves a bias skirt with an enormous amount of fabric. Spent three hours trying to eliminate some of the excess fabric. Even though this skirt pattern is designed with a bias layout and markings, it still has an enormous amount of fabric. Four attempts later, I was just absolutely tired of the fabric and the darn pattern!!

The pics above gives you a glimpse at the patterns and fabrics I so lovingly fondled, obsessed over and made every attempt at controlling my need to just cut into and suffer through tons of guilt and insane madness at not making a muslin or tissue fitting said patterns.

Well, now that I have blamed the patterns, maybe today I'll have greater results.

Review - Vogue 8278

Helloooo, I have been sewing. This is the latest. This Vogue pattern has been in my collection since its introduction (2006) and has finally made its way to the top of my to-do list.

This is a very easy pattern. Described as a Top, Dress, Sash and Skirt. I decided to make the dress with the sleeves froom the top and the sash. I sketched this out first to see how I would like and it worked. The dress is actually sleeveless with a back slit.

After making a muslin, I discovered alterations were needed for a high round back (1/4 inch- tapering to nothing), 1 inch waist lengthening, 2 inch below hip lengthening and I finally added 2inches to the hem area. Rather than use slits I added 2inches to the back slit area and made an enclosed vent. The dress is a pullover and after the alterations was a great fit. I made this dress in a Size 12.

The fabric is Silky Shantung which I interlined with French Fuse to help eliminate the wrinkling, which is characteristic of this fabric. I really cut the wrinkling down tremendously and was so easy to wear.

I highly recommend this pattern and may make the top and skirt later on. I love this pattern and am very pleased with the alterations. The high round back alteration was dead on. No gapping in the neck area. I was only able to get a front pic of me wearing, still have an uncooperative photographer (LOL)!!!

Topping Those Skirts Off - Pic Heavy

The tops below are so very comfy and I love them. The red top is from Vogue 8323 View C. The fabric is a knit from my collection. This pattern has princess seams, different necklines, bias tape finishing and stitched hems. I chose the scoop neckline with 3/4 length sleeves. Fitting this top is a dream.

The black pullover with 3/4 length sleeves is from Today's Fit by Sandra Betzina Vogue 8151. I love, love this pattern. The fit is figure flattering and the darts just really help create a great fit.

The sleeveless top is from Vogue 2925, which seemed to be a favorite top among bloggers. This top has shoulder pleats and slight side gathers. An easy sew and very attractive top.

Both black tops are made with a knit from my collection. There is an A-Line skirt, too!!! I went overboard when I purchased that knit, try eight yds.

The blue blouse is from Vogue 8193 View A, 3/4 length, pleated sleeves w/cuffs and a collar. The fabrics is from my stash. This top has not gotten any wear so far.

The plaid skirt, as well as the white skirt were made from McCall's 5590 (Pencil skirt). The white skirt is just under the knee lengthwise versus the plaid skirt which is the length from the envelope. I lined the plaid skirt, used boning in the waistband (side seams only) and piped the edges as a cool finish.

Sorry no pics of me in these garments. My photographer is not a really good sport(lol)!!

Sewing, Sewing, Sewn-- Oop Vogue 7615

This is a long post, trying to break up into two parts. I have been sewing. The dress is made from the OOP Vogue 7615 which is a close-fitting dress w/belt. Two views A-line w/below elbow sleeves or a slightly flared version w/long sleeves. The belt has pleats, narrow hems and hook & eye closure.

My fabric choice is, once again, from the Project Runway Collection '08. I chose the
a-line version w/3/4 length sleeves and omitted the belt (using a purchased one).
This dress was a breeze to make. However, watching televison and sewing is not in my best interest when sewing (LOL). If you will notice the back is slightly off where the bodice and waist seams join. While inserting the invisible zipper, I did not pay close enough attention (aargh). Anyways, it's okay, the belt hides that little goof!

I Feel It!!! A Sewing Vacation

This year has been very busy. I have been in Revials since May!!! As a MoM, I have been so overwhelmed with music that the time has come for me to spend some MEtime!!! I am taking a week of vacation which starts Monday. My plans include finishing up some summer sewing and getting a headstart on my fall wardrobe. I received a fashion mag today that has ignited the fire!!!

Oh yeah, that steam generator iron is on my radar, too. I'll let you know!!!!

Now I need your help!!! Vogue pattern 8304 which is OOP is my main must have right now! If you can let go, I will take it off your hand and help that overwhelming pattern collection (LOL). Really, really interested in the skirt. Well, I'm up late again, lurking and begging.

A Feel Good Dress - Vogue 8592 (Pics and long post)

To celebrate my birthday, I made myself a dress from Vogue 8592 and does it ever feel good. I saw this pattern and it was love at first site. This fabric is part of the Runway Collection from Hancock Fabrics. I loved it but never quite felt what to make of it. Luckily, I purchased three yards, still not enough, but it worked. This dress is so easy and very comfortable. This dress is shown in two lengths with two different raglan sleeve lengths. I chose the longer length with 3/4 length sleeves. Love it! To gather the neckline I used Elastic Guides purchased from Nancy's Sewing some years ago. These guides are excellent and come packaged in 3 lengths (1/4" 1/2" and 3/4") and are fantastic when inserting elastic.

I made a few alterations to accommodate my figure. The pictures included will speak to these changes. Being long wasted, I added 1-3/8" to the back tapering to 1" at the sides and added 1" in length to the waist measurement. I think, I could have altered the length between the armholes by about 1/2", but it's okay.

After the alterations were done, I had to shorten this pattern by 3" due to a lack of fabric. Overall, I love this dress and will probably make one or two more in some sassy fabric. Many compliments on this dress Sunday. I think the fabric really elevated this dress. The next time, I will make it with the 3" to the length. I love long dresses as well as short.

Oops!!! - 54th Birthday Celebration!!!!

Hello Fellow Bloggers it has been quite awhile since my last post. My apologies just been so very busy. I have been sewing but not taking pics of the garments. Today is my birthday and I feel so very blessed! To celebrate, I am in my sewing room today and the rest of the weekend.

Hopefully, I will be able to post pics of the garments I've made. Getting a photographer is getting harder now that school is back in session. I did take advantage of recent pattern sales. Purchased Vogues during the last Hancock sale and as a birthday gift to myself, I purchased Buttericks. WoW! I love those $.99 cent sales (LOL)

OMG!!!! (Sob, Sob, Sob....)

As many of you are aware, Michael Jackson, "The King Of Pop" has left this mean world. I am so saddened by this news. I, as so many, grew up on the music of the Jackson Five and later, Michael, as a soloist. The greatest entertainer and philanthropist of all time has been silenced. What a stellar performer!!! In spite of all the negative diatribe, he is and was the greatest entertainer of all times!!!! R.I.P. my friend.

Though, I never met Michael personally, I grew up with his music. I have loved that young bog who transformed into an humble, lonely, and giving individual. Michael, you and your music will forever live in my heart. My children (now, 33 and 27) endured many nights of hearing your music and became loving fans. R.I.P. my friend.

MY favorite recordings, of all time, are "Who's Loving You" and later, "Billy Jean". Though I may be shocked, I must always remember that Michael was the consummate entertainer and artist of all time!!! R.I.P. my friend.

I love you, Michael. You were aware that you had many associates, friends, lawyers, and the like but, I loved you Michael. Thank you for the beautiful music you gave to the world. Even though, I always desired to see you in a live performance and never did, your music and performances (via video) will have to suffice until....

R.I.P. my friend. You will never be alone again!!!!!!! You will never have to endure the humiliation that was brought upon you by the media outlets seeking ratings. Just rambling.... I had to vent the only way I can.

If you are not a Michael Jackson fan, I ask that you not leave negative comments HERE!, please. Let me grieve.

My prayers are with the Jackson family during this time. Mother and Father Jackson, please know that Michael had many lovers (fans) around the world. Crystal & White -- Vogue 8382 Pattern Review

As stated in a previous post, I have been sewing. This pattern from Vogue Patterns has been in my collection since 2007 and was just begging to be made up. I envisioned this dress in white and finally I was compelled to make it up this year.

The fabric is a cotton bamboo from Hancock's Fabrics from my stash. This fabric is so easy to sew and is so easy to wear and as equally easy to care for. This was a very straight forward pattern. The bodice was lined per the instructions but I believe the next time I will line the entire dress. I absolutely love this pattern. This dress has under bust darts and inverted pleats (front & back).

The fit was great. The neckline was raised 2.5 inches and the dress was lengthened by 3 inches. I guess you can tell I love longer dresses. When I added the crystal accessories, I transformed into a Barbie (LOL). Not my words, but an admirer!!! Don't you just love white. I wore this dress earlier in the week to kick start my summer.

If you have not tried Vogue 8382, I highly recommend it. It is an easy sew and very comfortable.

You Make Me Feel So Good! - McCall's 5893

WoW! it has been awhile since my last post. I've been sewing, ok? I made several garments but having a hard time with this video/camcorder (pics are not the best). I am finally convinced that a purchase of a "real" camera is in order (LOL)!

Oh well, here goes and please excuse the pics. This pattern is classified as an "Easy, 1 hour dress". It is easy and took about 2.5 hours to complete including alterations, cutting out and sewing. I read through the instructions and found no need to use them during construction. This pattern is a great beginner pattern and is stylish and very comfortable.

The fabric is a lycra knit from my stash from last year. I love, love, love it!!! It was purchased for something else but....

I made View D (size 14) straight from the pattern with the exception of lenthening the waistline and lengthening 4 inches to accomodate my height. This pattern (view) had 4 pieces which includes the pocket. I did not add the pocket. I believe the fabric choice really makes this dress.

I'm loving this knit!!!! I feel so beautiful in it, too!!!

New Patterns from Simplicity & Patterns Sale

Simplicity Patterns and Vogue Patterns are on sale at Hancock Fabrics this week. I am loving some of the Simplicity Patterns. Picked up several along with a few Vogues, as if I need any more (LOL). The new Simplicity Patterns include one which closely resembles Mrs. Obama's Inauguration outfit. Just love it!!! http://simplicity.com My favorite is #2552. What a dream to work up.

Still sewing and I might, just might make up the above mentioned pattern. I am so excited. Go check out those new patterns!!!

My May 2009 Adventures (long post).......

Hello blogland ,

May was a very busy and exciting month for my family especially my children. With my schedule being so tight there was no time for sewing. I travelled to Georgia again in May and as many of you are aware I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Faye Lewis fayessewingadventures while in Augusta. Those pictures are too funny and I look one hot mess!!! Remind me to never take pics after a day of outside fun activities.

Those two pics at the top gives you an idea of why I was in Georgia. That's right!!! My son (my eldest) received his MBA degree from Emory University in Atlanta on the 11th of May. And the baby (my daughter) received her RN degree from Aiken Technical College in Aiken, SC on the 7th of May. And of course those two little ones are my grands. I am so proud of my children and their accomplishments. I love you both and again Congratulations to you both!!!!! If you haven't noticed, I am one proud Moma!!!!.

Checking In!!!

NO! No sewing just plotting and prepping. I pray all of you had a wonderful weekend. I was sort of saddened by the fact that I was unable to see my grandchildren for Easter. I am also unhappy that I did not sew, that's right, sew their garments!! I misplaced their measurements and have torn this place apart trying to locate them. I am finally realizing the challenge presented by living far away from my children. Being an empty nester was once something I looked forward to until my babies(grand) were born. I believe every parent relishes the day when their children venture from the home to embark on new adventures, but never fully grasp that they move away (far away) and the dynamics change, somewhat!!!

I am starting my own personal SWAP this week. No deadline, just jumpstarting my sewing mojo and trying to forgive myself for misplacing those measurements!!!!!!

Color, Color is my new game!!!!!! Thank you Sewnistas for listening to my rant. Show and tell soon. I know, I know.......

My plans today included sewing early but Mother Nature decided otherwise. Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day, blooms everywhere, plenty of sunshine and was a good day for cleaning my sewing room. Today was a different story. Tornado warnings, hail and a quick retreat to my safe room. Wow! The scene from yesterday varies strongly from the results today.

As I look at my blog, I see many followers. I thank you from the depth of my heart for the encouragement and for checking in. Coming soon, I promise. Please don't count me out!!!!

I have acquired an interesting book, read from cover to cover many times over and wanted to share but lack the know-how to add to my blog. I know, some may wonder
why I would acknnowledge such ignorance. Well, I am not so proud, ok!?!

SAY WHAT!?!

Hello fellow sewers. It has been quite awhile since my last post. Much has been going on and I must apologize for the long absence. I have not been sewing but, I have been shopping while away from home. This has been a very challenging few weeks for me. As a mother and grandmother, I've learned that things don't always go as you plan. You have to be flexible and readily available to those whom you love and reach out to. My daughter is due to graduate from Nursing School in May and is juggling school, home and everything in between. It has been very challenging for her since she is a military wife (husband deployed) with two small children living far away from family.

Oh, I forgot this is my sewing blog!!!! I have been getting acquainted with my video camcorder which will enable me to post pics and the likes. I have come to the realization that my day needs 48 hours!!! Whew!

On the sewing front, I purchased fabric, patterns, etc. to make Easter garments for the grands and have not had the time to do so!!! Today is Monday, already, what gives????

Hopefully, I can get started tomorrow if I can locate the measurements I took for the girl and boy. Otherwise, I will have to purchase and beat the postman by Thursday!! Say it can be done!!!!

Well, I must get busy cutting out and guestimating (a word?). I hope to post pics of the garments when done.

I have so very much to learn about blogging. But with time and helpful sisters in blogland, I have no doubt all things will be up and running smoothly soon.
